English Honors I is a literature-based course which studies in-depth five literary genres through representative works and authors. Since EH1 is for advanced students, the complex literature study requires that students demonstrate critical thinking and writing skills. The curriculum includes an integration of writing, vocabulary, grammar, speaking, listening, research skills, and technology. In addition, the curriculum emphasizes the writing process in condensed and protracted forms, such as timed essay tests and formal compositions. Although the majority of writings are literature based, students create original pieces. Students’ writing should exhibit mastery of the conventions of English and stylistic fluency. EHI course work requires self-direction, time management, and commitment.
