AP English 4 is the fourth in a series of literature-based honors courses integrating writing, literature, vocabulary, listening, speaking, and research skills. The emphasis is on writing and literature. Students work in the various writing domains that reflect the critical thinking levels of observation, argumentation, evaluation, interpretation, reflection, and speculation about cause and effect. Students write critical research papers, essay tests, and prepare for the AP exam. Instruction may also given in completing scholarship applications. The major focus of the literature study is a survey of British works, analyzed for theme, structure, style, and levels of meaning. World literature may supplement the course. Students practice listening and speaking skills, focusing on the speech of argumentation and participating in various interactive activities. Library skills include orientation in university/college libraries and practice in methods of research and documentation. English 4AP is a college level course specifically designed for outstanding, serious, students who are challenged to read and to analyze college level material.
