Course Description

Students utilize traditional and electronic reference sources in their reading, writing, and speaking assignments. English 2 is a survey of world literature that includes mythology, legends, and fables. Using critical thinking skills, students examine the historical, cultural, and literary backgrounds of the literature, analyze core works, and relate their insights to their own lives. Students write for a variety of audiences and purposes utilizing the writing process: prewriting, writing, editing, and revising. Students write compositions, reports, essays on literary topics and work-based documents. The vocabulary curriculum emphasizes word attack strategies, taught within meaningful, literature-based contexts. Listening and speaking skills focus on relevant, real-life experiences. Demonstration speeches, critical and courteous listening, note-taking skills, class and small group discussions, and other interactive activities emphasize listening and speaking skills
