Maurice Sendak 1928-2012

Today beloved Children’s author Maurice Sendak passed away at the age of 83.  Maurice wrote and illustrated many books over his fifty year career but none as famous or as influential as “Where the Wild Things Are.”  Below is a link to a fantastic interview he did with Bill Moyer from 2004, as well as an extremely funny 2-part video of his interview with Stephen Colbert. Lets all Roar our Terrible Roars tonight in honor of his passing.

At the Library we work hard to make sure you have the best resources and experience possible.  We created a short, 2-3 minute Library Survey for you to give us your opinion.  The survey is anonymous, don’t be afraid to tell us how you really feel.  Your feedback is important, so please let us know how great (or horrible) a job we’re doing.

I wanted to share a brief article that discusses how the proposed SOPA and PIPA bills could affect libraries if passed.

I’m sure most of you are already pretty in the know on how damaging either of these bills would be, but this just further supports those concerns…

Also for those of you who haven’t seen it, this video does a great job explaining why these bills are so damaging…

Question of the Week

Why are all my library Strong School Libraries build strong studentsbooks due in January?

The WHS Library is now checking books out for three weeks or 15 school days instead of two weeks or 10 school days.  At the library we count only school days when calculating the due date so that means weekends and holidays do not count.

Why?  Our new online book catalog called “Destiny” www.whslions.net/library has a wonderful feature called Interlibrary Loans or (ILL).  Any student or staff member that has created an account in Destiny can borrow books from one of the other schools in the Huntington Beach Union High School District.  We changed our check out time to three weeks to make it easier for students and staff to borrow books from the other schools.

Stock up today for your winter break reading.
