AP Biology is a course equivalent to a two-semester college introductory biology course for science majors. The course follows the AP curriculum, which deals with the four major themes of biology: evolution, energy utilization, biological interactions, and the processing of information. There is a strong laboratory component to the course, requiring students to design, implement, and evaluate their own experiments. There is also a mathematics component where students should be comfortable with logarithms, exponents and solving equations. The national AP Biology exam is offered in May to allow students the opportunity to qualify for college credit and/or advanced placement at the college they will attend.
