Senior Activities

Springtime creates a great deal of anticipation and excitement for our seniors. As we look ahead to the end of the year’s activities, the success of these events, including graduation, depends upon your understanding, cooperation, and support. Please review the following requirements and information to ensure all students can successfully participate in their Senior Activities.

Because senior activities reflect the pride of WHS, violations of school and district policies, as well as any senior pranks, will be dealt with immediately and may jeopardize your student’s further participation in any remaining activities, awards programs, and or the graduation ceremony. The following requirements and rules are expected to be followed by all WHS seniors who intend on participating in our graduation ceremony:

Senior Behavior Expectations and Requirements

  • No students who owe Saturday Schools past April 15th may attend prom
  • Any senior who wishes to participate in senior activities after prom, including graduation, must have all Saturday Schools cleared by June 3rd
  • All seniors engaging in or instigating physical conflicts with other students will be prohibited from all senior activities, including graduation
  • Any senior in possession of a weapon will be prohibited from all senior activities, including graduation
  • All students who are caught under the influence or in possession of alcohol, drug, vapes, or any illegal substance for a minor or who engage in inappropriate sexual misconduct will be prohibited from all senior activities including graduation

*Parents/Students should continue to check student’s attendance online through the WHS Parent Portal. It is the student’s responsibility to check his/her attendance and any assigned Saturday Schools. A student with poor attendance may be prohibited from attending some senior activities, including graduation.

Senior Activities

April:

  • 24th -28th – Grad Nite tickets on sale online atwww.whsgradnite.webs.com
  • 25th – panoramic picture and College Commitment Assembly 10:40am-12:29 pm, parents welcome
  • 28th – Prom @ Coto Valley Country Club, 23331 Via Venado, Trabuco Canyon CA 92679, 8pm-11pmMay:
  • 1st – applications for graduation speakers available and Senior Contracts passed out
  • 2nd Senior Contracts due
  • 15th – applications due for graduation speakers
  • 16th – panel of judges hears speeches of prospective speakers
May continued:

  • 17th – Leo Awards • (invitation only), 6 pm WHS Gym
  • Any senior in possession of a weapon will be prohibited from all senior activities, including graduation
  • 22nd- 25th – Senior Exit Interviews, 7am-1pm
  • 24th – Senior Awards (invitation only), 6 pm WHS Gym

June:

  • 5th-9th – Senior academic finals and clearance (all books must be returned and outstanding fees paid)
  • 12th – Senior Picnic,12 pm followed by Seniors vs Staff Softball game @WHS
  • 13th – Senior Breakfast 8 am, location & cost TBA, mandatory graduation practice @WHS 10 am and “Rock N Bowl” 2-4pm @ Westminster Lanes, $5 ea
June continued

  • 14th Graduation Day – Seniors report 3:30 pm to the Gym, gates open for disabled guests 3:45 pm, but 4 pm for all other guests and ceremony starts promptly 5 pm in Boswell Stadium with diploma pick-up in Buckingham Square
  • 15th – any unclaimed diplomas may be picked up in the Administrative Office
  • 16th – Grad Nite for WHS Seniors only: go to www.whsgradnite.webs.com for more information- Buses load @ 10:00 am by the pool & return time is approx 3 am the next day

Optional Expenses and Deadlines

  • Celebrate your student’s graduation on the WHS marquee. Come to the Activities Office to place your request. The cost is $15 (cash only, please).
  • Save the memories! Yearbooks on sale for $90 while supplies last, with over 8,000 photos and over 1,000 videos in the Yearbook.
  • Senior Mugs- $10 ea and are available at the graduation ceremony.
  • Graduation photos by Grad Images – proofs will be sent to students and photos can be purchased when the proof is received. No other cameras will be allowed on the field during the ceremony. www.gradimages.com

GRADUATION GUIDELINES

This commencement ceremony provides the school and its community an opportunity to recognize the academic achievement of our school’s graduates. Although joyous in nature, graduation is a formal occasion that is rooted in years of tradition representing a meaningful rite of passage from childhood to adulthood. It is our intent that the ceremony will proceed smoothly; however, should undignified acts detract from the importance of the occasion, participants and or spectators will be removed by WPD and or HBUHSD campus security. Please help us celebrate our students in an appropriate manner by abiding by the following rules and expectations:

Graduation Rules and Expectations for Seniors

  • Any seniors who wish to participate in the graduation ceremony must attend mandatory practice on June 13th @10am- caps and gowns will be handed out at this practice. Contact Scott Graduation if you have not purchased your cap and gown: (949) 574-7444 or www.scottgraduation.com.
  • NO cell phones allowed on the field during graduation- leave your phone with a family member.
  • Students may only wear stoles, cords, pins, and medallions issued or authorized by WHS. Graduation is about celebrating academic achievements so students’ attire should reflect students’ academic affiliations and performance.
  • No leis or personal celebratory items can be worn before or during the ceremony- any student wearing inappropriate attire will be prohibited from participating.
Suggested

Dress Code:

  • Gentlemen-
    • dress pants
    • dress shirt
    • dress shoes/nice tennis
    • shoes (no bare feet)
  • Ladies-
    • dress pants, skirt or dress o no midriff shirts/blouses
    • wedge heels or flats

REQUIRED (no spike or single heel will be allowed on the turf)

Graduation Rules and Expectations for Spectators

  • Spectators may enter the stadium through the main entrance- SPECTATORS ARE NOT PERMITTED ON THE FIELD.
  • No balloons or air horns are allowed inside the stadium so that all names can be heard.
  • Remain for the entire ceremony. The program should last approximately one hour. PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE AFTER YOUR SENIOR IS INTRODUCED.
  • Stadium seating is on a first-come, first served basis.
  • Refrain from prolonged applause. Please allow other graduates and family members to hear individual names.
  • Please meet your graduate on the soccer fields outside the stadium. NO ONE IS ALLOWED ON THE FIELD.
*No tickets are necessary for the graduation ceremony.
