Westminster MERITS students placed first in the minecraft category and second in the prototype category at the 2021 STEM on the Sidelines competition hosted by the Los Angeles Chargers, Ducommun and UCI’s School of Engineering.
This past weekend two teams of MERITS students traveled to Sofi Stadium to compete in the STEM on the Sidelines Challenge presented by UCI, the LA Chargers and Ducommun Engineering. Seniors Dat Luu, Calvin Dao, Jason Dinh, and Triet Tran designed and built a pneumatic cannon to kick footballs through a mini goal post while Juniors Nikki Nguyen and Lyntram Nguyen designed a LA Charger STEM themed minecraft world. After a long afternoon of competition our Senior Team earned 2nd place and the well earned Perseverance award in the football challenge while the Junior team won first place in the minecraft challenge. Both teams will receive tickets to this Thursday Chargers game and pregame recognition.
