What is AVID?
AVID is recognized worldwide as a top college-readiness elective program. Our students spend four years in our elective preparing to gain acceptance to a 4-year college/university.
Our AVID students learn and practice strategies have proven to help students to be successful in both high school and college. We call that WICOR (Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, and Reading).
We also have college tutors in the classroom two days a week that help students in a small group setting with anything that they are confused with using the Socratic method.
We explore colleges so that students know what best fits them and how to make it accessible both academically and financially.

At WHS, we’re breaking the mold. As the first California high school to launch an official AVID CTE Pathway, we are proving that you don't have to choose between vocational skills and university prep. Our students get the best of both worlds: hands-on industry experience backed by the world-class support systems of AVID. We’re not just teaching trades; we’re building the next generation of college-educated professionals.
